The Target Audience and the Essays: Addressing the Art of Rhetoric in the Civil Rights Movement.

This paper examines Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" and Malcolm X's "The Black Revolution" in terms of how these two noted speakers directed their written works towards their respective audiences. It should be noted that the essay by Malcolm X was first an oral speech and was later documented in text form.
